Active lime is widely used in steel, alumina, magnesium, calcium carbide and desulfurization paper industry in power plants. Active lime is an important auxiliary raw material for steelmaking. Using active lime has a series of characteristics such as improving the quality of molten steel, increasing the output, reducing the consumption and cost of steelmaking, and stabilizing operation. The practice has proved that all the enterprises using active lime to make steel have achieved remarkable economic benefits. In recent decades, the output of steel-making lime in China has increased by 40%, but the high-grade lime with activity of more than 300mL has increased from 27% to 29.5%, only increasing by 2.5%.

Process flow of active lime system

Qualified limestone is stored in the bin, lifted by the hoist and transported to the top bin of the pre-heater. At the top of the pre-heater, the feeding amount is controlled by the upper and lower two level gauges, and then the limestone is evenly distributed to each room of the pre-heater through the blanking pipe. The limestone is heated to about 900°C by flue gas of 1150°C kiln in the pre-heater, about 30% of which is decomposed. The limestone is pushed into the rotary kiln by hydraulic push rod, and sintered into CaO and CO₂ in the rotary kiln. The decomposed limestone goes into the cooler, where it is cooled to 100°C and expelled. The heat exchanged 600°C hot air enters the kiln and is mixed with gas for combustion. The waste gas enters into the bag filter through the induced draft fan and then into the chimney through the exhaust fan. The lime from the cooler is sent to the lime finished product warehouse by vibrating feeder, chain bucket conveyor, bucket elevator and belt conveyor.
